Cullasaja Falls

Cullasaja Falls
Difficulty
Easy

Catch a glimpse of Cullasaja Falls from the roadside on the Mountain Waters Scenic Byway (US Highway 64), 8.8 miles west of Highlands. The beautiful cliffside drive winds through the Cullasaja River Gorge in the Nantahala National Forest. Exercise caution on the narrow road and note limited pull of space for 2-3 cars on the left when heading west from Highlands. Consider parking while approaching from Franklin to be on the pull off side. From Franklin, it is roughly 8 miles east on US 64 from the US 441 intersection. Keep an eye out for the unmarked 250-foot waterfall and drive slowly to spot the pull-off. A small, unofficial, and steep trail descends from the pull off area, suitable for experienced hikers. For optimal views, visit in the winter when the foliage is sparse.
