Each year, Mountain Theatre Company brings world class performing arts to Highlands, featuring popular favorites like Jersey Boys, The Rocky Horror Show and A Wrinkle in Time. With its history dating back to the 1930’s, MTC’s dedication to the theatrical arts in Highlands is long lasting and has blossomed into a professional regional theatre after a rebrand and relocation to the Highlands PAC in 2022. This year’s highly anticipated schedule of Broadway-quality performances includes; Grease, Catch Me If You Can, Burnt Part Boys, and Home for the Holidays. MTC kicks off their season on June 6, with the electrifying energy of Grease as it hits the stage with beloved songs like “Summer Nights” and “You’re the One That I Want,” transporting audiences back to 1959 Rydell High where Danny and Sandy's summer romance faces the challenges of teenage life and love once more.

The Highlands Cashiers Players offers first rate theatrical productions to the plateau and provides local residents the opportunity to develop and display their theatrical talent.  They are the areas only all-volunteer, not-for profit theater organization. So far this year, the Highlands Cashiers Players have brought “Love Letters”, “Squabbles” and beginning May 9, “Always a Bridesmaid” will come to Highlands. In this comedy, four lifelong friends uphold a promise made at their senior prom, steadfastly supporting each other through the trials and tribulations of marriage for over thirty years. Libby Ruth, Deedra, Monette and Charlie navigate the highs and lows of matrimony with humor and determination, facing challenges from wandering eyes to runaway brides, all while reaffirming the enduring power of friendship. As they weather mishaps, misunderstandings, and even fistfights, these bridesmaids demonstrate just how far they’re willing to go to honor their commitment to each other amidst the chaos of love and weddings.

Although home to multiple organizations that put on great performances throughout the year, the Highlands Performing Arts Center itself has a busy schedule full of entertaining productions occurring throughout the year. The Performing Arts Center's schedule features concerts and the “Live on Screen” series that features The MET: Live in HD, Great Art on Screen, and National Theatre Live. In May, The Met: Live in HD performance is, “Madame Butterfly” in which three sopranos, including Asmik Grigorian in her Met debut, portray the tragic character of Cio-Cio-San in Puccini’s opera. Mezzo-sopranos Elizabeth DeShong and Eve Gigliotti alternate as Suzuki while baritones Davide Luciano and Lucas Meachem take on the role of Sharpless in the Metropolitan Opera’s production. In June, The National Theatre Live Screening is Fleabag (Encore). Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve” both writes and performs this raw comedy, directed by Vicky Jones, offering an unfiltered glimpse into the life of a woman navigating her own chaotic existence. Amidst strained relationships, financial struggles, and the challenges of running a guinea pig café’, Fleabag’s seemingly reckless demeanor belies deeper complexities as she confronts a life with seemingly nothing left to lose.
