Creating a safe, fun experience for ghosts and goblins of all ages, Highlands’ Main Street (from 2nd to 5th Streets) will be open to pedestrians for Halloween on Main between 6 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. That’s when participating area merchants will distribute candy, some of which is purchased by the Highlands Chamber of Commerce/Visit Highlands, NC and delivered to them by the Interact Club.
New this year: A Kid Zone, across from Reeves/Ace Hardware and The Park on Main, both of which are known for their festive participation. An inflatable slide and an obstacle course, provided by the Highlands School PTO, will be part of the fun. Additionally, popcorn, provided by the Highlands School Booster Club, and hot chocolate, distributed by Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Plateau will be given away. Volunteers from both rotary organizations, MountainTop and Highlands, will grill and give away hot dogs. Drinks and food will be supplied by the Highlands Chamber of Commerce/Visit Highlands, NC, and all civic/nonprofit organizations will collect donations to be used in the community for their respective causes as they manage distribution of the items.
Three types of music will be part of the event – a bluegrass band, a DJ and the band High Five.
“We continue to provide this long-standing and popular event, offering an accessible, free experience for everyone – all ages of residents, businesses and visitors – to enjoy Halloween as a community,” says McHan.
