What: Mountains in Bloom Garden Festival
July 8-11, 2010 - Mountains in Bloom garden festival The 14th annual Mountains in Bloom is a multi-day garden festival (over 1,200 attendees, July 8-11, 2010) in the mountain resort community of Highlands, North Carolina. Mountains in Bloom features a magnificent tour of mountain gardens, a flower show and photography competition, a home and garden market, and a garden-themed lecture by a top speaker. What: CLE:MADISON: A Classic Southern Town
Celebrating the bicentennial of Madison in 2009, William Mitchell will present a lively, illustrated lecture based on his recently published book, Madison, A Classic Southern Town. This class will take you from its founding in 1809, through the antebellum years before the Civil War, and then into the Victorian era. Madison has a large historic district, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. You will see how historic preservation has been an intimate part of the way the town has developed since 1970. (See Sept 22-23 for information about the CLE trip to Madison and Washington, GA)
